Why Use Generative AI for Real Life?

I told my dad a week ago that I thought generative AI is as big if not bigger than the internet. He agreed. “It’s a shame that most of the content and news is for enthusiasts and techie people,” he said. “No one has really done a good job explaining MCP to the regular person and that’s a huge deal.”

It reminded me of a different conversation I had with my father-in-law the year before. “No one knows how it really works,” he had said. “It’s scary. Computers are going to take over.” It sounded like the opening lines of a new Terminator movie.

It’s not that no one knows how it works, but there’s just a lack of content for us regular people. Maybe I’m not regular – I used to be a technical writer and now work in product operations for an AI company. I worked for over a year with my dad on a generative AI startup, getting deep into prompts and ideating on agentic workflows. But I use AI for regular stuff all the time and you should too!

Generative AI is for everyone and everyone should feel comfortable using it. My most recent uses:

  • Career decisions: My dream is to become an AI product manager and AI is telling me exactly what my skill gaps are.
  • Daily journaling: Sometimes I just need a structured set of prompts to use for daily reflection.
  • Tarot card readings: Why not let a computer help me divine mystic knowledge?
  • Health coach: You can have ChatGPT help you with any goals you may have.
  • Existential dread: I feel like ChatGPT might be a little too kind to me, but it’s great for organizing disparate thoughts and ennui.

Look forward to posts about using generative AI, how to learn more about it, and my hopefully successful journey toward being an AI product manager.
